Megawide Construction Corp. (MWIDE) continues to expand its project portfolio with a P1.1 billion design-and-build contract for Block 2 of the Carbon Market redevelopment in Cebu City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the company\u2019s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) unit announced that it will spearhead the project, covering piling works, structural development, architectural elements, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fixtures (MEPF). The scope also includes the supply and installation of pre-cast products to enhance efficiency and quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe envision Carbon Market as a model for urban renewal and public market modernization in the country. This project allows us to showcase our vertically integrated operations, ensuring speed to market, consistent quality, and the exceptional workmanship Megawide developments are known for,\u201d said Edgar Saavedra, Chairman and CEO of Megawide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the disclosure, Block 2 is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026. Megawide is integrating pre-cast technology into the structure\u2019s design and engineering to accelerate the construction timeline while maintaining high standards of quality and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur approach allows us to create value across multiple fronts\u2014from construction and engineering services to the supply of pre-cast materials\u2014enhancing efficiency at every stage of development,\u201d Saavedra added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Carbon Market Redevelopment is part of a 50-year lease agreement with the Cebu City government, aiming to preserve the site\u2019s cultural heritage while transforming it into a vibrant tourist destination and economic hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Block 2 will feature a multi-level, mixed-use space that will accommodate sections of the existing public market, as well as dining, retail, and artisanal showcases highlighting Cebu\u2019s local offerings. The project will complement key attractions such as The Barracks (Cebu\u2019s first hawker center), the Sto. Ni\u00f1o Chapel, Freedom Park, and the ongoing Puso Village development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of end-2024, Megawide has expanded its order book to P43.5 billion, securing P16.3 billion in new contracts during the year, including the Block 2 project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
