ACEN floating solar projects get green lane status<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bureau of Investments has granted green lane status to ACEN\u2019s five floating solar projects in Laguna Lake, with a total generating capacity of 1,120-megawatt peak (MWp) of solar power. The five projects cover a combined area of 800 hectares on the eastern side of the lake, spanning from Paete to Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is green lane status?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Green lane status is granted to strategically important investments, and expedites permit and license issuance as well as grants a mechanism for resolving strategic investment issues. This will allow the projects to come online by 2026 and 2027, and could potentially reduce costs. This is a welcome development as floating solar projects are one of the most expensive forms of green energy to develop, but also one that suits the Philippines due to our vast expanses of water and shortage of land suitable for traditional solar facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Road to 20-GW<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These floating solar projects would help build towards ACEN\u2019s stated target of 20-GW of RE capacity by 2030. As of now, funding costs remain a key concern for ACEN as they push their aggressive expansion program in the midst of a high-interest rate environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
