We are revising our Target Price for TEL to P1,573 with potential upside of 24.85% as the company continues to register growth in its fiber-based business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysis and Opinion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

PLDT Inc. (TEL)’s core net income in the 4th quarter (4Q) of 2022 improved by 8.45% year-on-year (y\/y) to P7.74 billion and full year 2022 grew 10% y\/y to P33.12 billion on strong growth from its fiber-based businesses. Revenues increased +5.91% y\/y to P52.23 billion although EBITDA was down -2.04% to P93.95 billion. Margin is at 45.8%, lower by almost 4pps y\/y, mainly due to MRP spiking to P5 billion in 2022 compared to P269 million in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PLDT’s 2022 Net Income declined by -60% to P10.74 billion as the company records accelerated appreciation amounting to P51.2 billion. Modernization of the transport network, the conversion of existing DSL to Fiber lines amounted to a total of P19.2 billion. Management noted that accelerated depreciation is not interrelated with its P33 billion budget overrun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voyager\u2019s business continues to post net losses. The business is expected to remain outside profitability by 2024. Voyager led a -P2.6 billion decline to TEL\u2019s bottomline in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breaking down revenue, data-related services are strong, however non-data services such as SMS and voice are on the decline. This dropped -7.2% y\/y. Average monthly churn rates increased by 40bps to 4.60% under TnT. Declines in the mobile divisions come primarily from TnT\u2019s business. TnT primarily focuses on the lower income segment of the market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As inflation became a growing concern for the country in 2022, consumers classified under low income have been greatly affected. As a result, consumers have been lessening their data usage. To combat this issue, management states that they would be working on providing more value promos to their prepaid subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
