Noticeably, the latest figure is just 6% below the 11.59 million passengers recorded back in pre-pandemic 1Q 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our View:<\/strong> Prospects remain bright for the Philippine travel and tourism. Cebu Pacific is looking at 2023 to be their first profitable year since the pandemic began in 2020, as Asian countries further loosen their respective travel restrictions, especially that of China\u2019s. This data from MIAA, we think, is just the opening salvo for the air transport and tourism sector as the skies get busier during the summer months of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, CEB accounted for ~47% of total tourists that went through Philippine airports translating to ~5 million passengers flying Cebu Pacific during the first quarter. Increased passenger count coupled with lower jet fuel prices during the same period allow us to reasonably expect CEB to become operationally profitable during 1Q 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increasing air traffic, lower jet fuel costs and a stable Philippine Peso are the tailwinds that Cebu Pacific needs to finally break free from the bearish trend that has been in place for almost three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key resistance level to break for CEB is the Php 44 handle which when broken will clear the skies for the airline operator to lift higher towards the Php 48-49 levels.
